After three rehearsals, a new adult strings group appropriately called “Strings, Bows and Contentment” will perform its first public concert during Thursday’s Winter Walk. The upcoming 2023-24 season will offer Northfield High School boys basketball fans a few changes from last year’s squad that finished the season with a 15-12 overall record and a 13-9 record in the always rugged Big 9 Conference under the leadership of first-year coach Matt Christensen. In an inspiring act of courage, Rice County Sheriff's Deputy Nate Hanson was recently recognized for his valor with two distinguished awards following a daring rescue from a fiery crash. On July 12, 2023, Deputy Hanson rushed to the scene of a severe collision on I-35 near Faribault and pulled the injured truck driver, Dennis Brown, from his burning vehicle moments before it was engulfed by flames. Though Brown passed away two weeks later, Hanson's swift actions earned him the Deputy Sheriff of the Year award and a Minnesota State Patrol Commendation Award, putting a spotlight on the exceptional dedication and bravery required in emergency services.
