Deputy Arrested In Connection With Drug Smuggling Investigation At Jail In Castaic

A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested last week as part of an investigation into how drugs are being smuggled into Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic.

Deputy Michael Meiser was arrested on a felony charge last Tuesday, April 30, according to officials.

“The Department’s Internal Criminal Investigation Bureau initiated an investigation into the allegations involving an employee. We arrested the employee on April 30th for felony charges,” Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials said in a statement.

The arrests comes as officials have been investigating how drugs have been smuggled into the North County Correctional Facility in Castaic, officials confirmed to NBCLA .

Over the last three years, multiple inmates have been hospitalized and even killed due to drug overdoses in the jail. Santa Clarita arrest records regularly show that inmates are provided with additional charges of smuggling illegal substances into Pitchess Detention Center and the North County Correctional Facility.

“The employee is relieved of duty pending the outcome of the case,” Sheriff’s officials said in the statement. “This is an ongoing investigation. Once the case is completed it will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.”
