CARMEL, Ind. — The Carmel Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that involved a vehicle and bicyclist.

According to a press release, the crash happened on Friday at approximately 10:19 a.m. CPD reported that the cyclist — who has been identified as 85-year-old Giacchino Mutone — was transported from the scene to a local hospital before he ultimately died.

After a preliminary investigation, police determined a juvenile male was turning onto West Main Street from Towne Road before the crash. At the same time, Mutone was traveling south along Towne Road on a multi-purpose path.

Mutone was struck by the juvenile driver’s car when he later tried to cross West Main Street.

The CPD Accident Investigation Team is still looking into the crash. Officials encourage those with information on the crash to call CPD at (317) 571-2500.
