Hughley is coming to Detroit's west side Wednesday to headline a get-out-the-vote rally stacked with members of Congress, a Grammy-winning hip-hop group and a Detroit poet laureate, all pushing residents toward the polls one week before Election Day. Tally Hall expands reunion tour, 'blown away' by fan response

Reunited Ann Arbor pop-rock outfit Tally Hall is expanding its upcoming run of shows to meet fan demand. The band has added a second Los Angeles show to its itinerary on May 3, joining the already announced May 2 concert. The band also moved to larger venues in Philadelphia (April 14), Chicago (April 18) and San Diego (May 1). In addition to its previously announced April 17 concert at the Michigan Theater, a listing for a second Michigan Theater concert appeared Oct. 28 on Ticketmaster's website, but has since been removed. The new listing was for an April 16 show, which was not a part of the group's expanded tour announcement on Oct. 29. Tickets for the April 17 concert at the Michigan Theater go on sale at 10 a.m. Oct. 30 via Ticketmaster, with a general onsale to follow at 12 p.m. Meanwhile, the group said on X it has been "BLOWN AWAY" by the response to its reunion. Harry Houdini died in Detroit 100 years ago

Locals are marking a century since renowned illusionist Harry Houdini died in Detroit on Halloween. Zoom in: The escape artist was born in Hungary and grew up in Wisconsin, but had a deep connection to Detroit. He performed here 19 times between 1894 and 1926, according to the Detroit Historical Society . He also made the news by leaping handcuffed from the Belle Isle Bridge into the Detroit River in November 1906. Houdini's last performance was at Detroit's Garrick Theatre on Oct. 24, 1926, during which he experienced abdominal pain and a fever. He died on Oct. 31 at Grace Hospital at age 52. Doctors suspected appendicitis and his ruptured appendix was removed, but infection had spread. Experts have debated whether the cause was getting punched in the abdomen days earlier.
