    West Texas A&M track and field team earns fourth consecutive Lone Star Conference Championship title

    AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The West Texas A&M University track and field team earned their fourth consecutive Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship title.

    WTAMU men’s team finished the meet in first place with a total of 284.50 points, which is the highest in WT’s history. The Lady Buffs also finished in first place achieving their second-highest score in WT’s history with 274 points.

    According to a WTAMU press release, the Buffs scored in every category including sprints, hurdles distance, throws, jumps, relays and multis which includes Decathlon and heptathlon.

    Officials WT listed the following notables from the meet for a full list visit WTAMU :

    • Out of 10 distance events, WT scored 8 first place finishes, one second place finish and one event where no one was entered to competed.
    • The Buffs and Lady Buffs both took first in the 4×100 relay and the 200m dash.
    • Olympic qualifier, Isaac Botsio, easily ran ahead of the competition in the 100m at 10.22
    • Laiten Greeson took first in the heptathlon with 5,238 points, the second most in WT history and David Richards took bronze in the decathlon with 6,557 points
    • Corrssia Perry earned first-place finish in the 400m in 52.88 seconds marking the fourth fastest time in WT history and bronze in the 200m.
    • Deborah Acheampong ran the 8th fastest time in WT history in the 200m in 23.53 seconds to take gold at LSC. Amari Weatherford finished in second place at 23.89 seconds.

    The breakdown of points is as follows:

    • First place awarded 10 points,
    • Second place awarded 8 pts,
    • Third place awarded 6 pts,
    • Fourth place awarded 5 pts,
    • Fifth place awarded 4 pts,
    • Sixth place awarded 3 pts,
    • Seventh place awarded 2 pts
    • Eighth place awarded 1 pts.

    WT men’s team scored the following:

    Sprints (33); Hurdles (25); Distance (111); Throws (35); Jumps (55.5); Relays (14); Multis (11).

    WT Lady Buffs scored the following:

    Sprints (60); Hurdles (19); Distance (90); Throws (42); Jumps (39); Relays (12); Multis (12).
