    Massillon woman, Akron man killed in separate crashes in Canton

    CANTON ‒ Two people died in separate motor vehicle crashes on Thursday afternoon.

    Louise Wisniewski, 85, of Massillon, was pronounced dead at 3:36 p.m. at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital after a collision at Tuscarawas Street East and Belden Avenue, said Harry Campbell, the coroner's chief investigator for the Stark County Coroner's Office.

    Wisniewski failed to stop at a red traffic signal and was struck in the intersection, Police Chief John Gabbard said in press release.

    Officers responded to the crash at 12:37 p.m.

    In the other accident Timothy Leon Mayle, 60, of Akron died after the Harley-Davidson motorcycle he was riding crashed on northbound Interstate 77 just north of the interchange at Cleveland Avenue South. He was pronounced dead at Aultman Hospital at 4:34 p.m.

    Mayle hit a guardrail and was thrown from the motorcycle, Gabbard said.

    Police responded to the crash at 4:09 p.m.

    The Canton Metro Crash Team is investigating both incidents.

    Canton Fire Department medics transported both accident victims to hospitals.
