Tuesday's highlights
JACKSON BASEBALL BY ITS LONESOME Dylan Lahr and Kyle Carey each had two hits and an RBI as Jackson beat visiting Green 5-2 on Tuesday. The win moves the Polar Bears (8-2) a half game ahead of GlenOak (7-2) for first place in the Federal League standings. Hoover (6-3) is third after a home loss to Lake on Tuesday. Jackson's Landon Thiel (5-1) allowed two runs and struck out nine over five innings to get the win. Cole Baker pitched two shutout innings to get his first save. Carter Mottice added a triple and two RBIs for the Polar Bears, who are 16-7 overall. Dominic Salomone led Green (11-10, 6-5) by going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
GLENOAK'S ELENA KNOWLES SETS COUNTY RECORD GlenOak's Elena Knowles set an all-time Stark County shot put record for girls seated athletes during the Federal League Junior Varsity Track and Field meet. Her throw of 19 feet, 0.5 inches also broke school and GlenOak stadium records. Knowles won a state championship in 2021 and was runner-up last year.

Monday results: Lake Center Christian baseball repeats as Portage Trail Conference champion
LAKE CENTER BASEBALL REPEATS Nathan Bryant threw a five-inning no-hitter as Lake Center Christian blanked visiting Warren JFK 13-0 on Monday, clinching the Portage Trail Conference championship for a second straight season. The Tigers, who win this year's title outright after sharing last year’s, improve to 20-1 overall and 9-0 in the PTC. They'll try to complete a perfect run through the league when they go to JFK (14-5, 7-2) on Tuesday. Bryant struck out eight batters in moving to 6-1 on the season. Luke Heckert went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored to lead Lake Center's 13-hit effort at the plate.
