Construction underway on two sounds walls along I-75 in Oakland Co. Find out where
TROY — Construction is underway on two sound walls along Interstate 75 in Troy following years of complaints from nearby residents and businesses about excessive noise. One 2,666-foot wall is being built from Wattles to Long Lake. The other wall, which will be more than 2,000 feet longer at 4,273 feet, is going up from Crooks to Coolidge. Construction started in April of this year, said Rob Morosi, a spokesman for the Michigan Department of Transportation, and will take roughly two years. It's expected to wrap up in the fall of 2027. The walls are the result of a $10 million earmark in the 2024 state budget sought by state Rep. Sharon MacDonell and Sen. Michael Webber. MacDonell said in a post on social media that she was glad to see construction underway while driving through Troy late last month. "Securing $10 million in state funding for this project in 2023 is one of my proudest accomplishments during my time as your state representative, and I’ll keep working hard to bring more resources to our community for projects like this one," she wrote in a post on Facebook. MacDonell said it took years of advocacy by many, and that Troy

Michigan, Michigan State to launch urine recycling pilot at Michigan Stadium on Saturday
Researchers from Michigan and Michigan State will “collect urine from tailgaters” at Saturday’s rivalry game in Ann Arbor as “part of an event called ‘The Piss Off,’” according to Austin Meek of THE ATHLETIC. Researchers at the event, coordinated by Michigan’s Nutrient-Energy-Water Cycles Group, will “pasteurize the urine and isolate nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium for use in fertilizer pellets that will be applied to plants” at UM’s Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum and MSU’s W.K. Kellogg Biological Station. Two donation stations with standing urinals will be in the tailgating areas at Ann Arbor Golf & Outing Club across from gates 2 and 4 at Michigan Stadium. The group said that it “hopes to add sitting options for future events.” According to N-E-W Cycles, this event will be the “first ‘stadium-scale pilot’ for urine recycling in the U.S.” Saturday’s kickoff is at 7:30pm ET, and the donation stations will be open from 1pm ET until the end of the game (THE ATHLETIC, 11/5).
