In early January, Scott County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a home on Weir Road in western Scott County on a report of a residential entry. The property owner was able to show deputies video of an unknown male walking inside and around the residence, but nothing was initially discovered missing in the house. However, the property owner’s pickup truck missing from the attached garage, allegedly taken by the unknown male intruder.
Hallador Energy announces restructuring plan, cutting more than 100 jobs
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Hallador Energy has announced it is eliminating 110 jobs as part of a restructuring plan for its Sunrise Coal Division. False Reporting Leads to Additional Charges
KNOX COUNTY, Indiana (DLC Media) – A wanted woman now faces even more charges after multiple false 911 calls. Samantha Richards attempted to divert Knox County officers from her home by calling and reporting that she was in multiple places. Dispatch reported multiple 911 hang-up calls from Richards’s home. Richards would then call again claiming that she was in a different town at a gas station stating that her husband was chasing her. This claim was also false as deputies went on to search the home and located Richards hiding inside a vehicle.

Jasper Council: Municipal pool project moves forward
With word that the bond issuance had been approved, the council took several steps to move the municipal pool project forward at its regular meeting on Tuesday. Among those steps was the approval of the transfer of the municipal pool property and the Habig Center over to the recently formed Redevelopment Authority. During a special meeting prior to the council meeting, the redevelopment authority approved accepting the properties.

Grant Funding Available to Jasper Residents
The Jasper City Council met on Wednesday with a full agenda to hear from local organizations and departments integral to the community. Fire Chief Kenny Hochgesang provided a comprehensive departmental report to the Council. He noted that approximately 65% of their calls are medical. With that in mind, Chief Hochgesang mentioned that the recently-purchase Lucas devices have already proven invaluable. The department used one of the new devices as recently as this Wednesday morning in a medical call. One will eventually be available in each fire station. He also explained that there were 3 larger fires last year, and the department is continually looking for ways to prepare for these kinds of events. There will be a Fire School at the end of March at Vincennes University, which provides good opportunities for local firefighters from Jasper as well as the surrounding areas to get critical training.

Bid Accepted for Jasper’s Community Crossings Project
Late Wednesday afternoon, the Board of Public Works and Safety assembled for a special meeting. The only item on the agenda was a bid opening for the Community Crossings matching grant project. An 8- street paving project for the city of Jasper will be funded by grant funds awarded by the Indiana Department of Transportation. This special funding was awarded by the state in a cooperative effort with recipient communities to keep roads well-maintained, which contributes to motorist safety and economic development for the region.
