    Caney man arrested for shooting at occupied vehicle

    COFFEYVILLE, Kan. (KOAM) -- Authorities arrest a Caney, Kansas man suspected of shooting at someone inside a vehicle.

    According to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, it happened around 7:55 p.m. on May 11, 2024 on U.S. 166 and County Road 3500 outside of Coffeyville, Kansas.

    The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office says deputies arrived at the scene with the reporting individual. The individual told deputies he was pursued by a black Challenger from Caney, Kansas. Deputies say shots were fired at the the individual's vehicle, but there were no injuries sustained.

    The Sheriff's Office says deputies were able to locate the suspect at a home in Caney, Kansas with the help from the Caney Police Department.

    Authorities arrested the suspect and took him to the Montgomery County Department of Corrections and booked him on attempted murder in the second degree.

    "I extend my appreciation to dispatch, deputies, and the Caney Police Department for their swift and professional response," Sheriff Wade stated. "Through our joint efforts, we successfully arrested the suspect, ensuring the safety of our community."

    This investigation is ongoing.
