Monday morning traffic in downtown Mount Airy came to an unexpected stop at West Pine Street and Main Street. Burnett, Phillips combine to no-hit Floyd
Lance Burnett and Ben Phillips combined for a no-hitter Friday as Carroll County’s baseball team won a Three Rivers District contest 9-2 at Floyd County. Burnett carried the bulk of the workload for Carroll County (11-3, 5-3 Three Rivers District), delivering 103 pitches over six innings. The Cavalier senior struck out 10, walked four, and allowed one run in six hitless innings. Phillips came on in relief to start the seventh inning. Phillips walked three and hit a batter, but did not allow a hit to complete the combined no-no.
EMS Memorial Bike Ride treks through Surry County
The National EMS Memorial Bike Ride honors Emergency Medical Services personnel by organizing long distance cycling events that memorialize and celebrate the lives of those who serve every day, those who have become sick or injured while performing their duties, and those who have died in the line of duty. Nathanael Dalton won two events May 4 as Carroll County’s boys’ track team won the VA Relays at Virginia High School in Bristol, Va.
