Man facing drug-related charges in Barron County

A Cameron man is accused of possessing THC with intent to deliver and is facing a total of seven drug-related charges in Barron County Circuit Court.

Michael J. Mason, 30, was charged on March 19 with felony possession of THC with intent to deliver in an amount between 200-1,000 grams. The following six misdemeanors also were filed: two of possession of controlled substance, two of possession of drug paraphernalia, one of use or possess with intent to use a masking agent, and one of possession of cocaine.

Mason is free on a $5,000 signature bond and is scheduled to make his adjourned initial appearance on Wednesday. If convicted of the felony, he faces a maximum penalty of a $10,000 fine and six years in prison.

According to the criminal complaint, Mason’s vehicle was stopped in Chetek at approximately 9:20 p.m. on March 17 for an expired registration.

During the stop, the officer detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. When asked if he had any pot in the vehicle, the defendant said he did and pulled a glass pipe out from between his legs, and stated he had some “flower,” which is a term used to describe the bud of a marijuana plant, in the door.

The officer searched Mason and located a large amount of cash in both of his pockets. The cash totaled $4,874, consisting of 29 $100 bills, four $50 bills, 87 $20 bills, two $10 bills, two $5 bills and four $1 bills.

The vehicle was searched, and among the items found were separate bags containing a green plant material that field tested positive for the presence of THC. The total weight was 210.4 grams.
