A Day of Action on February 18 to Help Save Minnesota Restaurants
Last week I was speaking to a friend who has been regularly volunteering at a Minneapolis food drive, delivering groceries to families sheltering in place amid ICE operations. She had received a message from one of the food drive's organizers: They were in desperate need of delivery drivers for the day because many of their volunteers hadn't showed up for their assigned shifts. I hate to tell you this because it is just one sliver of the larger story of Minneapolis in the winter of 2026, which is a story of courage and commitment and unwavering love. But I saw it then as I see it now: A warning sign, a reminder that though Operation Metro Surge is reportedly winding down, the fallout continues for those ICE has hurt the most. As things grow quieter (at least on the surface) and national attention inevitably shifts, they need our support now more than ever.

Twin Cities Music Clubs On The Brink As Costs Crush The Scene
Across the Twin Cities, the clubs that helped build the local music scenes are getting squeezed from every direction. Smaller bar tabs, rising operating costs and increasingly tricky ticket math are cutting into both venue survival and what musicians take home. Owners say the kind of small show that once comfortably paid staff and a band now often leaves almost nothing to split. As mega-rooms and new amphitheaters come online, independent stages are starting to worry that the touring map itself is drifting away from neighborhood rooms.

Key Changes: The Tough Economics of Live Music in the Cities
Minneapolis singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Taylor Carik has a question. Really, it’s a lament: Do people give a $%&! about local music anymore?. He remembers a Thursday night at St. Paul’s divey Turf Club about a year and a half ago. Carik was playing with Parishes, his pandemic project—a journey through ’90s electro-dance, funk, and blues.
