Guernsey County, OH ( WTRF ) – A mother has been arrested and her kids have been removed from her home after a 2-year-old child was exposed and overdosed on amphetamines.

The Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office said they were notified from social workers at Nationwide Children’s Hospital that they were treating a 2 year old child for exposure/overdose from amphetamines.

Deputies say the child was taken to OhioHealth Southeastern Medical Center in Cambridge by the child’s mother shortly before 11:00 p.m. and once stabilized, the child was transferred to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus by a Medical Helicopter.

According to deputies no one was with the child at the hospital and the social worker could not make contact with the mother while the child was in “critical condition.”

Deputies then began to check multiple residences and eventually found the mother. Deputies say the mother allowed deputies to enter the home and speak with her and they discovered that she had three other small children in the homes, ages 13 months and one month old twins.

At the home, deputies deputies summoned case workers from Children Services to the residence due to the conditions at the home and had all three children removed from the home.

The mother and her boyfriend were asked to come to the Sheriff’s Office to be interviewed. Following the interview and processing evidence the mother was arrested.

Brittany Nicole-Lynn Colvin, age 29 of Byesville has been charged with Endangering Children, a felony of the third degree and Tampering with Evidence also a third degree felony.

Colvin will have a bond hearing at the Cambridge Municipal Court on Wednesday May 1st at 1:00 p.m.
