Pleasant Day announces new executive director

CAMBRIDGE - Since its founding in 1987 by the Dorchester County Commission on the Aging, Inc., Pleasant Day Medical Adult Day Care has been directed by the hand of Jackie Vickers.

For over 35 years, the Center has been a cornerstone in the community by helping seniors and disabled individuals to live independent longer.

Vickers strived for Pleasant Day to be inter-generational and inclusive by holding large community events such as Senior Day at Sailwinds, Family Fun Day, and most importantly, the Festival of Wreaths which became an annual fundraiser to give Pleasant Day participants a brighter, happier holiday season.

Vickers had considered the possibility of retirement but something always compelled her to stay in the driver’s seat.

“I realized that when our RNs Erin Windsor and Roz Sampson made the Basket Bingo event a success without my involvement that this was the moment I had been waiting for. It occurred to me at that point that Pleasant Day had the tools and staff to operate without me.”

Vickers knew that everything was in place for her to step aside and rest easy knowing that the Center was in capable hands.

The Dorchester County Commission on the Aging, Inc., was notified and Vickers announced her successor: the Health Director, Erin Windsor, RN.

“I am elated and honored that Jackie had the confidence in me to head Pleasant Day,” said Windsor.

Since her acceptance of the position, Windsor and the staff have held their second successful Basket Bingo event raising money for the Ocean City trip to be held at the end of the summer.

“We have a lot of great ideas planning for Pleasant Day to make it bigger and better. This story doesn’t end with Jackie.”

Vickers herself is not yet done with the Dorchester County Commission on the Aging, Inc. She has redirected her time to spearheading a new assisted living development that will be erected next door to Pleasant Day.

Pleasant Haven, as it will be called, will be a 32-bed facility to serve Dorchester County residents.

“I intend to stay on and guide this project until we break ground, then I will ride off into the sunset,” Vickers said.
