CAMBRIDGE — In early April the Convening Conference of the Northeast Conference of the Global Methodist Church was hosted at Christian Life Assembly in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. This historic event was the first gathering of Northeast Global Methodist Church representatives from the 13-state Northeast region including members from Maine to West Virginia and part of Pennsylvania. There are currently 175 churches and over 200 clergy that have joined the GMC in this region with many more in the process of joining. The theme of the event was “Moving in the Spirit.”

Grace Methodist Church of Cambridge joined the Global Methodist Church in September of 2023. “It has been exciting to become part of this new movement of Methodism. The Spirit is moving at Grace — all of us feel the sense of hope and the genuine fellowship and energy of a growing body of Christ. Grace Church is committed to making disciples of Jesus Christ and reflecting the love of God to the people of Cambridge, ”Pastor Chris Pettit said. “The Convening Conference provided encouragement and affirmation as we joined together with like-minded churches and worshipped the Lord.”

During the historic convening conference, over 450 people attended from every part of the Northeast. The event included the ordination of 45 elders and nine deacons — including Pettit who was ordained an elder. A significant amount of time was devoted to fellowship, inspiring guest speakers, worship and prayer for the new denomination and the Global Methodist Church.

The Reverend Steven Taylor, President Pro Tem of the Northeast Conference, and GMC Bishop Mark J. Webb officiated the gathering. Taylor cast the vision for the Conference and emphasized the commitment across the Northeast and the globe to worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly. Webb led the ordination service where he described the denomination as, “A connectional orthodox Wesleyan Methodist movement with a mission to multiply the number of followers of Jesus.” He added, “Our priority is to trust the promise and message of the cross and boldly proclaim the message of the cross.”

Grace Methodist Church in Cambridge, has a rich history. It has stood prominently on the corner of Race and Muir streets in central Cambridge since 1882. For over a century, it has been a house of prayer and has offered biblical instruction to generations of Cambridge residents. All are welcome to attend worship Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. or watch the livestream on the church Facebook page. Grace for the Shore, the radio ministry of church, broadcast every Sunday at 10 a.m. on 100.9 FM Classic Country.
