Milam County WW I soldier’s identification returns home
Pvt. First Class Oliver H. Lankford, a U.S. soldier who served in World War I, was posthumously responsible for an impromptu gathering at the Milam County Courthouse on Monday afternoon. County Judge Bill Whitmire hosted a small gathering in his office as a once lost “dog tag” from 1918 was given to the Milam County Historical Commission and the Milam County Historical Museum. Aggies open Bryan-College Station Regional against UAlbany on Friday
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - The No. 16 seed Texas A&M softball team hosts UAlbany to open the Bryan-College Station at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Davis Diamond. Texas A&M (40-13) welcomes Texas State (45-13), Penn State (34-18) and UAlbany (33-12) to the Bryan-College Station Regional. Each game can be streamed on ESPN+ with Brittany McKinney (analyst) and Trey Bender (play-by-play) on the call. All Aggie softball games can be heard on the 12th Man Mobile app or locally on Gospel 97.3 with Matt Simon as the play-by-play voice in his 10th season with Texas A&M softball.
Rockdale substation closed
Starting on May 17 the Rockdale Substation of the Milam County Tax Office will be closed until further notice. The county seat location in Cameron is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except for the following: Monday, May 27, for Memorial Day; Monday, June 3; June 19, County Holiday Juneteenth; June 25 through June 28, closed for audit and close out.

Fusion Peru owner dies after battling bacterial lung infection
Fusion Peru restaurant owner and chef Jorge Chunga died last Wednesday after a two-month battle with a bacterial lung infection. He was 55. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at Grace Midtown Church in Bryan. Family visitation begins at 11 a.m. and the service begins at 1 p.m. Chunga will be buried afterward at the Bryan City Cemetery.
