Anglers are reporting good numbers of fish
The CDFW stocked trout last week in Sections 4 and 5 of the Upper Kern River, keeping the trout bite strong throughout the area. Anglers are reporting good numbers of fish, with several limits coming on salmon eggs, trout jigs, pinched nightcrawlers, and crickets. Fly fishermen are also finding steady action using nymphs and dry-dropper setups. Next week the CDFW are scheduled to stock trout in Section 4 (Riverside Park in Kernville to Powerhouse #3), Section 5 (Fairview Dam to Lazy River Lodge) and Section 6 (Fairview Dam to Johnsondale Bridge). On the Lower Kern, trout fishing has been productive around Keysville, where trout jigs and spinners are producing fish. Largemouth and smallmouth bass are also biting well, with small crankbaits, jigs, and spinners getting results. Catfish continue to be caught on dip baits, nightcrawlers, and cut baits. At the time of this report, the Upper Kern was flowing at 196 CFS, while the Lower Kern was running at 276 CFS.
