St. Clair County judge detains man charged in fatal shooting in Cahokia Heights

A Cahokia Heights man sought in connection with a fatal shooting in February has been arrested and a judge ordered him Wednesday to remain in jail.

Niko A. Goree, 21, is being held on a first-degree murder charge in the shooting death of Bradford Readus, 22, on Feb. 6, according to St. Clair County court records.

The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis announced in February police officers were looking for Goree. He was booked into the St. Clair County jail on Monday.

Readus was found shot to death in a home in the 700 block of Mildred Avenue in Cahokia Heights. Authorities have listed two addresses for Readus — one in Memphis, Tennessee, and the other on Kenneth Avenue in Cahokia Heights.

St. Clair County Associate Judge Sara L. Rice conducted a detention hearing for Goree Wednesday. She stated in her order that prosecutors contend that Goree shot Readus multiple times and that Goree should be remanded to the county jail.
