HINES-We are once again teaming up with Drug Takeback Solutions Foundation to host a drug takeback event occurring in May with a secure drop off location at Hines Park. This event is offered to help reduce the potential risk of unused prescription drugs harming members of your family or community by keeping them out of the hands of kids and others who might abuse them. Proper disposal of medication also keeps it from contaminating water sources.
Tales of the Past: Small outpost springs up in Southeast Harney County
Fields, Oregon, is located about 50 miles southeast of Frenchglen, between the Steens Mountains and the Pueblo Mountains. It is near the Oregon/Nevada state line in a sparsely settled ranching region. Charles M. Fields filed a homestead claim in 1881 near this site along what became known as Fields Creek. He patented his claim on July 29, 1891. He established a stage station at the site to serve as a rest stop along the old stage road between Burns, Oregon, and Winnemucca, Nevada. Fields built a stone house that stood for many years. A school was established about 1900.
Oregon State Police assist Burns Police Department is burglary in Hines
HINES-On the night on April 17, 2023, Oregon State Police assisted Burns Police Department with a forcible burglary that occurred on Shelton Avenue in Hines. Oregon State Police and Burns Police Department located the suspect’s vehicle located in a driveway on West Grant Ave. Oregon State Police and Burns Police Department made contact with a female suspect, identified as Jean Molt who was inside a residence on West Grant Ave. There was a second suspect identified as Harry Hathaway. Oregon State Police searched for Hathaway and located him in a trailer located on South Liberty Ave in Hines.
SELCO Community Credit Union collects 1,100 children’s books, refurbishes many to benefit SMART Reading program

(KTVZ) — To celebrate World Book Day on April 23, SELCO Community Credit Union announced that it collected 1,100 new and lightly used children’s books — and SELCO employees volunteered en masse to sort and clean many of them — during its recent book drive benefiting SMART Reading, a statewide children’s literacy nonprofit.
