DES MOINES – The Fort Madison boys and girls track teams finished on a better note Saturday at the IGHSAU/IAHSAA State High School Track and Field meet at Drake Stadium. Sophomores Avery Rump and Mara Smith scored five of the Hounds' nine points on Saturday’s final day of the meet.

Cardinals use big second half to down Fort Madison on Senior Night
Nate Lampe inched closer to another school record and added to one he’s already had during the Newton boys soccer team’s home win over Fort Madison on Friday night. The Class 3A No. 10 Cardinals recognized 13 varsity players on Senior Night and used a three-goal second half to pull away from the Bloodhounds during a 4-1 non-conference home win at H.A. Lynn Stadium.

POLICE: West Burlington Police Department arrests juvenile after gun found in possession on school grounds over weekend
WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (KWQC) - The West Burlington Police Department said a juvenile male was arrested and charged after he was found to be in possession of a firearm on school grounds. The incident occurred outside of school days and hours, police said. They also said they want to advise that there is no current threat of safety for the school or students.
Bowie, Rump 5th to kickstart state track
DES MOINES – It looked as though the Fort Madison Bloodhound boys and girls would have a good day of it placing in two of the first three events of the morning. Sophomore Avery Rump captured 5th place in the 3000-meter run setting a personal best at 10:27.75, and then junior Kenden Bowie hit a personal best leap of 6’7” in the boys' 3A high jump.
West Burlington Police find juvenile with gun on school property
A juvenile with a gun was found on school property and now faces a felony charge, according to a news release from West Burlington Police. About 6:15 p.m. May 12, officers received a tip from a resident who saw two people walking around the area of Leffler Street with what appeared to be a gun. Officers searched the immediate area and located two juveniles walking on the property of the West Burlington Elementary School. Officers recovered a gun in the waistband of one of the juveniles.
Hearing-impaired Burlington man dead after being hit by garbage truck
BURLINGTON, Iowa — A man is dead after being hit by a garbage truck Thursday morning in Burlington. An Iowa State Patrol crash report says the garbage truck was backing up on Isabella Avenue when the pedestrian, who is hearing-impaired, went to cross the street and was fatally hit. The report identifies 49-year-old Brian Whittaker of Burlington as the victim in the crash. The crash happened around 10:08 a.m. near the 2000 block of Isabella Avenue.
