    Two Buffalo restaurants 'closed until further notice' after death of co-owner

    Forty Thieves Kitchen & Bar and Doc Sullivan's Restaurant will be closed until further notice following the sudden death of co-owner Tommy Cowan .

    Both of the Buffalo staples announced the news on Instagram Tuesday.

    Doc Sullivan's posted the heartbreaking notice to its Instagram story.

    Doc Sullivan's message

    "Tommy was one of the most caring and generous people you could ever meet. At Tommy’s table everyone was welcome," Cowan's obituary reads.

    In January, 7 News Anchor Jeff Russo spoke to Cowan and his business partner, Brian Scanlon , at Forty Thieves in the Elmwood Village ahead of the Bills game in Miami. The kitchen and bar have been a consistent sponsor of "Bills Backers at the Beach" in Fort Lauderdale.

    Doc Sullivan's in South Buffalo has been a go-to spot for wings in Buffalo, making the Buffalo Wing Trail list.

    Flowers were placed outside the front door of Doc Sullivan's on Wednesday morning.

    Cowan was also part of the ownership team of Patrick's Rooftop at 500 Pearl.

    A wake will be held Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cannan Funeral Home in Orchard Park. A celebration of his life will take place Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Basilica in Lackawanna. You can read his complete obituary and tributes here .

    Cowan's family is finding comfort in an outpouring of support from the Buffalo community.

    7 News spoke with Cowan's mother Libby, and his sister Erin on Wednesday, both are heartbroken saying "Tommy was the light of our lives, the most generous kind-hearted guy you could ever meet," adding, "He will always be the best guy we know."
