National media outlet names the Bills' most questionable selection in the 2024 NFL Draft and they're very wrong

On Thursday, CBS Sports named the most questionable selection for each team in the 2024 NFL Draft.

For the Buffalo Bills, CBS Sports went the selection of offensive tackle Travis Clayton in the seventh round.

From CBS Sports : Buffalo is another organization that was able to thread that small-eyed needle of landing need and talent. They have good reason to gamble on the future prospects of a 6-foot-7, 301 pound offensive lineman but Clayton is very much a vision rather than a finished product. The Bills are in a good spot if there first questionable pick did not occur until the seventh round. Those are often throw away picks anyway.

I can't agree with CBS Sports on this one.

For starters, it's hard to call any selection in the seventh round a "questionable pick". Seventh round picks face an uphill battle to make a roster. It's not like it's a spot in the draft where teams are looking to land a guaranteed impact player. Instead, it's a spot in the draft where teams hope to land a player with upside that ends up being a "hidden gem".

And that's exactly what the Bills are hoping for with Clayton, a player that has very little experience playing football.

Clayton, a native of England who is 6-foot-7/303 lbs and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.79 seconds, is an impressive athlete who could end up performing like a first round draft pick.

Or he could never make a 53-man roster in the NFL.

It's a gamble by Buffalo, but it's a low-risk gamble considering the team used a seventh round selection to draft him.

Those are exactly the kinds of picks that the seventh round is made for.

Sometimes they work out, often they don't. But it's never wise to call a seventh round selection questionable before they ever step foot onto the field.
