New Piggly Wiggly owner excited to energize De Pere, Kaukauna stores

De Pere and Kaukauna Piggly Wiggly shoppers can expect an experience "above and beyond your normal Piggly Wiggly," according to the stores' future owners . Fox Bros. Piggly Wiggly on Nov. 2 announced it would purchase the stores at 300 E. Ann St., Kaukauna, and 575 Swan Road, De Pere, effective Jan. 31. Mike Olwig, the company's president, said the 100% employee-owned grocery chain turns its special sales, like a one-day meat sale and bratfest, into full-blown events. "We do it above and beyond your normal Piggly Wiggly," Olwig said. "We like to have fun with them. It’s definitely an event in the store." Olwig said the company will look to infuse the same energy into the Kaukauna and De Pere stores next year. The two stores will be the 12th and 13th stores Hartland-based Fox Bros. owns and operates. They'll be the first two in northeastern Wisconsin. When the opportunity arose to buy the two stores from Stoneridge Meat and Country Market, Fox Bros. was excited for the opportunity to continue to grow. "What better way than into new markets? We were excited about that," Olwig said. He sees it as a win-win-win proposition: The company expands its operations,

A butcher shop that calls itself the maker of a famous five-foot summer sausage deserves your full attention. Five feet. That is taller than plenty of sixth graders. The sausage is only the opening act. This old-fashioned shop also stocks thirteen kinds of bacon and twelve flavors of snack sticks.

7 St. Martin's Day Dishes German and Dutch Families Cooked in the Midwest

I use AI to help draft these articles. Every recipe and every fact in them is checked before publishing. November 11 was St. Martin's Day, Martinmas on the old calendars, and in parts of the German-speaking world, the Rhineland above all, it meant a lantern walk at dusk. Children carried paper lanterns with a candle inside, sang the Martin songs, and often followed a rider in a red cloak playing the saint who cut his own coat in half for a freezing beggar. German immigrants to Wisconsin, Ohio and Michigan brought the day's food with them, and German clubs and schools in the Midwest still hold lantern walks today. The harvest was in, the first hard frost had come and gone, and the supper waiting at home afterward was the last big feast before Advent.

These Crab Cakes Are Giving Wisconsin Seafood Lovers A Reason To Return

Crab cakes sit on the same appetizer list as homemade sauerkraut balls and a Bavarian Scotch egg. That lineup alone tells you this kitchen enjoys a little friendly chaos. The building dates back to 1948, and one family kept the lights on starting in 1967. I love it when a place carries that much history without acting stuffy about it.
