Broward County, FL - A man in Broward County is facing multiple assault charges after allegedly pointing a gun at a group that included children during a fight.

A violent encounter in Broward County over the weekend led to the arrest of a 22-year-old man.

John Smith, of Lauderhill, allegedly pointed a gun at multiple people, including children, during a chaotic altercation.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to reports of a shooting on Saturday.

While initial reports indicated shots fired at a residence, the caller later clarified that Smith had displayed a firearm but hadn't discharged it.

Investigators pieced together the events leading up to the incident.

An argument erupted between a woman and Smith's alleged girlfriend outside a residence.

The situation escalated as Smith allegedly grabbed the woman by the throat.

A witness intervened, sparking a physical fight involving several people.

Amidst the struggle, Smith retrieved a gun and pointed it towards a group of eight individuals, five of whom were minors.

Fearing for their safety, all those present fled for cover.

Deputies apprehended Smith during a traffic stop shortly after the incident.

A search of his vehicle yielded a loaded Glock pistol, consistent with witness descriptions.

Smith faces eight counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

He is currently being held at the Broward Mail Jail, with bond information unavailable at this time.
