NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Authorities have arrested a man after he fatally struck a 10-year-old girl on a Brooklyn street on Tuesday.

Police charged 62-year-old Isaac Karczag with failure to yield to pedestrian, failure to obey traffic device and failure to exercise due care.

At approximately 2:42 p.m., police responded to a 911 call of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Wallabout Street and Franklin Avenue in Williamsburg.

Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad determined that Karczag was driving a 2022 Buick Enclave SUV westbound on Wallabout Street when he crossed the solid double yellow lines into the eastbound traffic while making the left turn onto southbound Franklin Avenue then struck 10-year-old Yitty Wertzberger who was crossing with the walk signal in the marked crosswalk.

EMS responded and transported Wertzberger to Brooklyn Hospital Center where she was pronounced dead.

Karczag remained on scene and was taken into custody.
