BROCKTON – Enjoy the savory flavors and fragrant herbs in a hot Vietnamese soup bowl. We found two places in the city that serve it the "best."

On this week's installment of Brockton Eats with Alisha , we are touring Brockton to find the perfect bowl of pho. Pho is a traditional Vietnamese soup made from bone broth, thinly sliced meats, vegetables, and rice noodles. Most restaurants serve the soup with fresh greens, bean sprouts, scallions, limes, and hot peppers.

Pho is very nutritious and backed with loads of vitamins and nutrients from the bone broth and vegetables.

These weekly lists of tidbits and food finds are not reviews but go beyond a bare-bones round-up. Staff writer Alisha Saint-Ciel gives tips and takes to help Brockton-area foodies find those mouth-watering hidden gems, old favorites, and exciting new offerings.

Pho Town 6 – 27 Westgate Drive, Brockton

A traditional Vietnamese American fusion restaurant serving recipes passed down from generation to generation is located right next to the Westgate Mall. The restaurant prides itself on serving food free of monosodium glutamate (msg), a commonly used seasoning to enhance food flavor.

The soup at Pho Town 6 is beautifully dressed with cilantro, mint, and Thai basil. I usually take the herbs they include and pile them high in the broth. I then squeeze two limes into the soup to finish it off. Sliced green onions and hot peppers elevate the flavors to give it a unique signature.

You can get your pho in several ways, but one of the most popular is the sliced chicken pho, which can also be fried.

The restaurant serves six combinations of pho, which takes several days to make.

Bowl sizes range from small to medium, large, and extra large. If you're a seafood lover, try the seafood pho. This particular dish includes shrimp, fried fish sausage, crabmeat, squid, and noodle soup served with chicken or beef broth.

Not only do they sell pho, but they also have fried rice, orange chicken, spring rolls, fried egg rolls, and butter garlic shaking beef on fried rice.

Some popular rice dishes include grilled honey-glazed chicken, stir-fried seafood, and BBQ ribs.

This restaurant offers a wide range of dishes, no matter the craving.

    Pho 89 – 708 Belmont St., Brockton

Pho 89 in Brockton is the sister restaurant of the Randolph location, which serves Vietnamese food the Pho 89 "way."

The menu is filled with items from classic pho to deep-fried choices and a seafood frenzy. Lobster lovers can smile knowing all their favorite sea creatures are being cracked and steamed in the back kitchen.
