Broome County Sheriff's Office Police Blotter
Several arrests were made in Broome County in the last week. The office says a Binghamton man was charged after hindering police while they were attempting to arrest his son. William M. MacDowall was charged with Hindering Prosecution in the 3rd degree and Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd degree. These charges came after police were attempting to arrest his son Justin on a bench warrant for Probation Violation and an arrest warrant for Strangulation in the 2nd degree. Justin MacDowall was charged with Resisting Arrest and Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd degree after refusing to allow police to execute the above warrants.

Small Community Fund Grant Program Now Open
Broome County Executive Jason Garnar announced the next round of applications for the Small Community Fund is now open. This year, there are $650,000 available. In 2023, over 50 projects were funded through the project. They included Gigi's Playhouse's remodel of their space in the Oakdale Commons, a new kitchen for Mercy House and Five Mile Point Fire Department used their grant money for a new generator and Life Pak AEDs for every truck.
NY weather update: Snow squall warning for Broome and Chenango counties Thursday morning
On Thursday at 10:05 a.m. the National Weather Service issued an updated snow squall warning in effect until 10:45 a.m. for Broome and Chenango counties. The weather service adds, "Reduce speed and turn on headlights! During snow squalls, the visibility may suddenly drop to near zero in whiteout conditions. There is no safe place on a highway when a snow squall hits. Visibility and traction are immediately lost in whiteout conditions, making it difficult or impossible to slow down and avoid stopped vehicles. Delay travel or safely exit the highway before the snow squall arrives."
Village of Greene to receive nearly $20 million in funding
The Village of Greene is one of nine Upstate New York communities to receive major funding for rural infrastructure projects.
Barn Destroyed in Fire in Chenango County
A barn is demolished in Greene after what was supposed to be a controlled burn became an out of control fire Tuesday morning. The call came in for a barn fire around 11:45 a.m. on Jackson Hill Road. According to the Broome County Deputy Fire Coordinator, the homeowner was having property demolished and the controlled burn became out of control. The third-alarm blaze destroyed an abandoned barn and spread to nearby brush. The brush fire was contained early.
