SPOONER – WIAA Regionals are getting close for area teams. Fortnightly Club's donates $1K for library's summer reading kickoff
The kick off of the Rice Lake Public Library's summer reading program is starting June 1, with something for everyone of all ages. The Rice Lake Fortnightly Club has donated $1,000 for this kick-off program. The Readapalooza event, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, will encourage sign-ups for the summer reading program. Participants will get a "Passport to Adventure," where they can mark down each day that they read during the summer to earn free books, a Super Reader yard sign, and a chance to win grand prizes at the end of the summer. The Readapalooza event will also have a bouncy house, a sweet treat, a free book for children who attend, and a craft. Crafts this year include rock art and a DIY wooden necklace.
Rettenmund recognized in April by Fortnighly Club
Rice Lake High School senior Lilly Rettenmund, daughter of Jodie Rettenmund, was recognized as a Senior Girl Honoree at the April 9 meeting of the Rice Lake Fortnightly Club. She has maintained a grade point average of 3.72 and joined the National Honor Society in her junior year. Five new winners in Rice Lake Speedway action
One of the largest crowds in recent history jammed the Rice Lake Speedway on Saturday night for the annual Kid's Night celebration. On a beautiful night for dirt track racing more than 100 bikes and gift baskets were given out to the kids with donated items from racers and fans alike. SPOONER – There have been changes made in the WIAA Softball Regionals for the Spooner Rails in Division 3, Shell Lake Lakers in Division 4 and Northwood/Solon Springs Fusion in Division 5. Spooner: The Spooner girls will now play Cumberland tonight, Monday, May 20, at 5 p.m. in Spooner. Shell Lake: The Laker softball Regional has been rescheduled to Wednesday, May 22, at 5 p.m. The Lakers will host Chetek-Weyerhaeuser at Shell Lake. Northwood/Solon Springs: Northwood/Solon Springs has been rescheduled to Tuesday, May 21, at Solon Springs at 5 p.m. against Prentice.
Rice Lake Men's Club donates to C-W band

HAYWARD - After a four-month investigation into drug activity throughout Sawyer, Washburn and Barron counties, four persons have been arrested, according to the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Police Department.
