    Power outage shuts down Rt. 50 in Bridgeport

    Update: As of 9:19 p.m. on May 4, the Office of Emergency Management in Harrison County confirmed via Facebook post that the road has reopened in both directions.

    Original : BRIDGEPORT, W.Va.(WBOY) – A power outage led to a portion of U.S. Route 50 in Bridgeport being shut down Saturday evening.

    Just before 6:45 p.m., a transformer on a power pole near the Speedway gas station on West Main Street blew, Bridgeport Police said.

    The blown transformer caused a power outage from Speedway to Papa John’s.

    Route 50 was shut down in the area for safety reasons, according to Bridgeport Police.

    Officers were waiting for Mon Power to respond to the scene. More than 1,100 customers were without power in Bridgeport, as of 8:30 p.m., according to Mon Power’s website. Power is estimated to be restored by 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, the website said.

    Along with the police department, the Bridgeport Fire Department was also on the scene.
