BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WBOY) — On Monday, the North Central West Virginia Airport held a cleanup event in honor of Earth Day for the fourth year in a row.

The airport’s Deputy Director, Shawn Long told 12 News that this event is done in collaboration with all of their different companies.

“Four years ago, we started out just us and Mitsubishi,” said Long. “And now we’re expanding to the other side of the field—Pratt & Whitney, Aurora Flight Sciences are all doing their part as well.”

Long said that the airport has this event each year in order to contribute to the surrounding community. “Obviously as we have many, many passengers coming here on a regular basis—we love to have the place look as good as can be, and just trying to do our part,” Long said.

For this event, participants cleaned up all areas along Route 131 leading through the facility. According to Long, this effort continued all the way up to the Mitsubishi facility near the property.

Neighboring tenants also helped to take care of roads along the other side of the property. The clean-up effort started at 11 a.m. and went on for about an hour, before volunteers were able to come inside for pizza and snacks.

“It’s a great feeling just knowing that we’re doing everything we can to keep our facility looking good so that when our passengers come here, they see… the pride that we take in our work,” Long added.
