A rodent infestation at a Bridgeport apartment complex triggered a public health investigation.

Residents at the complex on East main Street said the rodent infestation is so severe they don’t feel safe in their own homes.

But one resident is fighting back.

Resident Alesia Dennis said every day at her apartment is a battle. "I went to go in my linen closet to take out some clean linen and a mouse jumped out at me, so I had to take everything out and rewash it," she said.

Deputy Bridgeport health director Sumit Sharma is investigating the infestation. "If you are exposed to rodents in your own living environment, it's unsanitary in the first place and you could be at risk of contracting any of the disease they might carry," she said.

News 12 reached out to the property manager but have not heard back.

The Bridgeport Health Department said people can make anonymous complaints by phone at 203-576-7680.
