Bridgeport officials say they plan to help residents who are without heat and hot water at Success Village.

Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim said on Thursday the city has a plan to help them.

"We're going to support their financing and the obtaining of grants in order to replace the heating,” Ganim said. “It costs up to $30 million, to finally put to rest what's been a chronic problem of heat and hot water in the winter."

Residents they have been without heat and hot water for months.

Success Village Board Member Jose Sandoz says there's an urgent need to restructure the board so the community can hold a new election for a new president.

“That's what I want to tell the mayor. You want to help, get in here so we can have our election and the people that are supposed to be here on this board," said Sandoz.

Current Success Village President Ty Bird says he supports the mayor's plan and will not yield to opposition.

"I'm built for it and have a really good team, and we can get through this together," said Bird.

Bridgeport city officials say they hope to bring everyone together soon to provide answers about what happens next.
