High school football: Skyline gets big win over Highland in Region 10 clash
Skyline football was favored to win the Region 10 title in the preseason coaches poll, a nod that surprised even its new coach Brandon Matich at the time because Matich felt that honor should go to Highland until someone knocked off the reigning champion. The first-year Eagles coach and his team did just that Thursday night, and they did it on the Rams’ field with a strong 37-23 victory. It wasn’t an easy win in a game that got chippy and included a rarity of a safety by both teams, but Skyline stuck to its plan and limited Highland’s high-octane offense to pull out the victory. “I’m proud of these kids. They put in a lot of time, and this was a big moment for them,” Matich said. “Skyline has had a hard time getting over this Highland hump, and they were able to do it tonight.” The game really was an odd one to start, with the teams tied 9-9 with 10:42 left to play in the second quarter after Highland recorded a safety and a touchdown and then Skyline added a touchdown and a safety. For Highland, its score came after receiver Zamari Vaughn grabbed a 33-yard pass

Guest Opinion: Jurisdiction is complicated. Kids still need to cross Timpanogos Highway.
When my kids returned to school in Lehi this August, so did my worries. There were plenty of them — that’s part of being a mother. But one loomed largest: The pedestrian crossing at Timpanogos Highway and Center Street. Hundreds of students cross the busy highway every weekday, to and from Viewpoint Middle and Skyridge High schools. And it felt like an accident was waiting to happen.
