Man Caught after Grabbing Toddler in Riverton
A Lander man was arrested after he allegedly chased and grabbed a 4-year-old child in Riverton Thursday afternoon. Police were called to the 300 block of North Federal at 2:13 p.m. after a mother reported a man had chased her toddle and grabbed him. She described the suspect as wearing a black shirt and brown pants and that he still had her son. Officers located 32-year-old Dareck Girten of Lander and took him into custody on charges of unlawful contact.
District Attorney Announces No Charges for Officers Involved in Utah Police Shooting
At a recent news conference, District Attorney Sim Gill reported that officers involved in Zachary Tyler Alvarenga's fatal shooting in February 2022 won't be facing criminal charges. The eight-hour incident started after Alvarenga threatened a couple with a firearm. Despite attempts to peacefully resolve the situation, Alvarenga remained a threat. It's suspected he was wearing body armor.
