The hustle and bustle of the last few months came to an end for the seniors at W.S. Neal High School Monday evening.
In a 7 p.m. ceremony in the school’s stadium, 82 graduates crossed the stage during the 94th commencement ceremony at the school.
Valedictorian Emily Pettis spoke to the group in the traditional address wishing them well in whatever lies ahead.
“Our time at W.S. Neal has been challenging and rewarding,” Pettis said. We are saying good bye to classmates, teachers, coaches and even some friends. But, this is our time to change and grow. Whichever path you’re called to walk, walk it confidently.”
Salutatorian Sara Hammac also aimed her speech at fellow graduates as they embark on a future theirs for the taking.
“This night represents the hard work and dedication we’ve been working on for 13 years,” Hammac said. “It has prepared us for the challenges that lie ahead. Let us embrace the unknown with open hearts and open minds. Cherish the memories we’ve made.”
W.S. Neal High School Principal Todd Williamson conferred diplomas on the students during the evening’s festivities.
Prior to entering the stadium for the ceremony, seniors received their final address from Principal Todd Williamson.
“This is your night,” Williamson said. “I want you to enjoy this but, I want you to do what you know is right. This night isn’t just about you, it’s about your parents. They have worked for this night as well. Honor them now with your best.”
The ceremony on stage began with the pledge of allegiance and the singing of the school’s Alma Mater lead by Madison Dawkins, Emily Pettis, Madison Simpson and Baylie Wyatt, class officers for the graduating class.
Opening remarks and welcome was presented by Jennifer Natalie Hammac. Baylie Wyatt ended the ceremony with final remarks from the graduating class.
Diplomas were presented to each graduate by Williamson with assistance from Assistant Principal Robb Whitfield and Counselor Beth Caupp.
The seniors at W.S. Neal High School drew a crowd for the evening with a near-capacity stadium of family and friends at the school’s stadium.
