CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Clay County family has seen community support following a fire last week at their home.

The fire took place on Friday, April 26 in the 9000 block of N. Kennedy’s Crossing Road, just East of Brazil.

The property belongs to the owners of Lynch’s Garden Center.

Their daughter, Erica Blake said the fire is believed to have started in the back of the garage and spread to the family’s home. No people were hurt but the family did lose three cats in the fire.

Only the residential side of their property was impacted, so their garden center and sales building remains in tact. Blake said it’s hard to see so much from the home now lost.

“You see the things that over the years, you get used to seeing as you walk by and now they’re in a different state, so it wears on your heart, but this weekend, we’ve had so much support and people from the community that have come out to help take care of us,” Blake said.

Blake also said Lynch’s Garden Center is still open for business and continues to operate on regular business hours.
