We are heading into summer. As the sun shines for longer and cicadas begin to buzz in the trees, local high schoolers are concluding their studies for the year and enjoying their summer break. Before the school year winds down, here is our final round of nominations for Student of the Week for this school year.

Student of the Week is an initiative by the News-Leader to highlight the academic achievements of local area high school students. Local high school students who have shown outstanding academic achievement and shown their involvement in the community were nominated by leaders at school districts in the area.

Voting is open until 11 a.m. Thursday, May 23. Cast a vote for this round's student of the week by visiting the poll below the nominees. You can submit one vote per hour.

The selected student will be announced Friday.

The May 20 nominees are ...

Jordan Boehme, Kickapoo High School: Described as an incredibly kind person, Jordan was a Kickapoo U Top 8 student, cheerleader and choir member. Despite her vast involvement, she also works and volunteers at Cox Hospital. Jordan has an unparalleled work ethic, a dedication to be a strong leader and the ability to give her fullest to everything she is a part of. The graduating senior plans to attend Missouri State University this fall as a member of the MSU Cheer Team.

Jerrica Clemons, Spokane High School: As a talented musician, Jerrica is involved in marching band, pep band, wind ensemble, the drumline and the choir program, though she also competed at a state archery competition. She works at the Mansion Theatre for the Performing Arts in Branson. Jerrica and her sister are a duet known as the Clemons Sisters. The two most recently performed in April at the Historic Owen Theater for the Branson Regional Arts Council. This summer, Jerrica has been cast in the production of the Little Mermaid Jr. The tenth grader will be inducted into the National Honor Society and has been selected by the Governor's Council on Disability to attend the summer Missouri Youth Leadership Forum.
