Boiler solar project progressing; should be finished next year
Groundbreaking for a 17-acre solar project on the former Kewanee Boiler property in west Kewanee could come early next year. Taft Elliott of EnPower Solutions, the company developing the solar project, said several key steps have been taken already, and some things remain to be done before the solar panels can be installed.
Charlotte Gravitt named Galva American Legion’s Miss Poppy Day
Charlotte Gravitt, daughter of Debbie and Mike Gravitt of rural Galva has been named the Galva American Legion’s Miss Poppy for 2024. Selected by the ladies auxiliary, her duties will include laying a wreath on the graves of soldiers Wilbur Hagberg and Dale Hamlin, for which the legion post is named. She will also hand out poppies on Poppy Day, held on Friday, May 24, and participate in the Galva Freedom Fest Parade.
Williamsfield will hire interim school superintendent
WILLIAMSFIELD – The Williamsfield Board of Education has decided to hire an interim superintendent of schools after negotiations with a finalist fell through. Following interviews on May 9, the board narrowed the field to two candidates who had been presented after a search conducted by the Illinois Association of School Boards. Those finalists were then interviewed by board members and stakeholders from the district on May 13.

4 sentenced for bungled gun store burglaries
A federal judge has sentenced four people for their parts in a gun store burglary ring that tried to grab weapons from five counties in Central Illinois, including McLean. Dezmond Hardy, 23, Shaleik Ward, 20, Terrence Daniels, 23, and Erika Garner, 22, are all from Peoria. They admitted attempting and failing to break into gun stores in Bloomington, LeRoy, Lincoln, Decatur, Spring Valley, and Taylorville in August 2023.
