Dry weather Saturday before storms return to NOLA late Sunday
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Cooler and drier air is moving south towards the Gulf Coast following the passage of a cold front earlier today. As we head into the weekend, Friday night will see partly cloudy conditions early on, followed by clearing skies. Temperatures will dip to around 70 degrees, accompanied by breezy north winds blowing at 10 to 15 mph, occasionally gusting up to 25 mph.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A cool front moving into the region this evening is allowing dry air to settle in. Expect mostly dry conditions through the night and chilly temperatures into Saturday morning with lows near 60. Saturday will be the best day with comfortable, dry air in the the low 80s. Moisture returns by Sunday with some showers around on Mother’s day.
FIRST ALERT: Threat of storms increases Sunday night
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A quick change in the weather has happened, as clouds have rolled in and a storm threat is not far away. It won’t be a total washout for Mother’s Day on Sunday, but there will be some scattered showers to contend with. That chance for rain rapidly increases Sunday evening, especially north of the lake. The showers will become thunderstorms later in the night, kicking off a round of rough weather.
Severe Geomagnetic Storm Watch issued for the first time in almost 20 years
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A “severe” geomagnetic storm is now in progress, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) says satellites observed levels that reached level 4 on their 5-point scale of geomagnetic activity as of 11:37 a.m. CT. A series of solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs) began on Wednesday (May 8) and have been Earth-bound ever since.

Cooler weekend, heavy rain possible next week
NEW ORLEANS — A cold front is now to the south of us, and our weekend weather is going to be very pleasant, temperature-wise. High temperatures will be in the low to mid-80s, it will be a little bit breezy, and dewpoint temperatures will be in the low 60s. It will be a partly cloudy Saturday with the possibility of a very isolated shower on the North Shore early in the day, but most of us will be dry.

26-year-old man killed in French Quarter shooting identified by New Orleans coroner
A man who was killed in a French Quarter shooting earlier this week was identified by the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office as 26-year-old Juan Matthews. Matthews was hit by gunfire in the 500 block of Bienville Street, between Chartres and Decatur Streets, Sunday night, according to the New Orleans Police Department. Officers found Matthews with at least one gunshot wound, and EMS pronounced him dead on scene.
