    New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell travels to Qatar for economic forum

    NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell and mayors from Florida and Michigan are joining with the Embassy of Qatar’s U.S. Mayors Delegation for an economic forum in Qatar.

    During her visit, Cantrell will participate in meetings with both U.S. and Qatari officials to discuss education, climate change and economics.

    According to the mayor’s office, Cantrell is scheduled to meet with U.S. Ambassador to the State of Qatar Timmy Davis.

    A news release states Davis is a New Orleans native and has helped foster cultural exchanges with Qatar, even hosting the country’s first Mardi Gras celebration last year.

    Tulane University under fire again for handling of student activists

    According to the mayor’s office, Qatar has supported New Orleans for many years such as helping in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and investing in education and healthcare by providing state-of-the-art facilities for Xavier University and Tulane University.

    When she returns, Cantrell will attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the New Orleans Police Department’s relocation of its new headquarters.
