Hahnville, Thibodaux score wins in 5A District Track Meet
It was a day for the Tigers on Wednesday at our area’s Class 5A District Track Meet. Host Thibodaux took home the District Championship in the boys’ meet, using balanced scoring to roll to 118 points and a tournament title, just outlasting Central Lafourche, which scored 115.5 points and placed second.
New Orleans hires Stacy Hollowell as basketball coach
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The University of New Orleans has hired Texas Southern assistant and former Loyola-New Orleans coach Stacy Hollowell as the Privateers’ basketball coach. Two years ago, Hollowell coached Loyola to an NAIA championship. Following that season, he joined the staff of then-Mississippi coach Kermit Davis, but left Ole Miss in 2023 after Davis was fired. Athletic director Tim Duncan said during Thursday’s annnouncement that Hollowell “is a coach that I have watched for the past several years.” “From his national championship season through his time at Ole Miss and Texas Southern, we have talked about the alignment of our basketball philosophies,” Duncan said, calling Hollowell ”a strong recruiter” and “an innovative basketball mind.”
Jesuit and Mount Carmel win regional track and field team championships
Jesuit and Mount Carmel won Class 5A regional track and field team championships on the strength of their distance runners Wednesday at Hahnville. Jesuit, a regional track team champion for the first time in school history, clinched the team points lead when junior Brady Mullen and sophomore Brady Monahan finished first and third in the 3,200 meters. Mullen also ran anchor on the winning 4x800 relay that finished less than one second ahead of Brother Martin.
