Born on October 6, 1940, in St. Louis, MO, Emily's life was one marked by love, laughter, and a generous spirit that touched everyone she met.
Franklin County murder suspect deemed unfit for confinement
A Franklin County man accused of murdering his estranged wife earlier this year is deemed unfit for confinement. Powell Trout, 62, of Leslie, was arrested in January for fatally shooting his wife, Michelle. Trout had filed for divorce from his wife and she was living in a hotel in Washington at the time of her death.

Christmas Caravan Route announced
The route for the Fourth Annual Christmas Caravan has been announced. The annual side-by-side ride will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday at Mace Supermarket. Those planning to participate should gather between 5 and 5:30 p.m. for judging of the vehicles and plan to pull out at 6 p.m. sharp. The group will be escorted by the Cuba Police Department.

The annual event is scheduled for Saturday. “We will be going shopping next weekend on Saturday, December 9th. It really is one our favorite days of the year! A new development between Denmark Road and Highway 50 in eastern Union will eventually require a new stretch of road. The preliminary plat for the development, called Plat 2 of Riechers Station, was recommended Nov. 27 by the Union Planning and Zoning Commission.

Local family adopts one of 43 abused Siba Inus from Douglas County
After hearing that numerous dogs had been rescued from a hoarder in Douglas County, a St. Clair family felt the call to adopt one of the Shiba Inus. In mid-October, the Humane Society of Missouri’s (HSMO) Animal Cruelty Task Force (ACT) — one of the nation’s largest animal-rescue and disaster-response teams — rescued 43 Shiba Inus from a property owned by a former breeder in Douglas County. The dogs rescued were malnourished, sick, or injured, according to the HSMO.

Franklin County man seriously injured in crash between Leslie and Beaufort
A Franklin County man is seriously injured in a rollover crash about seven miles east of his hometown. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Gregory Vanover, 29, of Gerald, was driving on Highway 50, between Leslie and Beaufort, Monday afternoon, when he ran off the left side of the road and overturned.

Non-custodial mother from St. James receives probation for going on the run with her child
A Phelps County woman pleads guilty to illegally taking her child from the child’s legal guardian. Lisa Nemec, of St. James, pleaded guilty Monday during her pre-trial conference to interference with custody and tampering with a witness in a felony prosecution. In exchange for her plea, a charge of second-degree trespassing was dismissed.
