Red Sox star points out interesting reason for their struggles

The Boston Red Sox have dropped three games in a row (two to the Minnesota Twins and one to the San Francisco Giants), dropping their record to 18-16 in their 2024 campaign.

Boston's offense has been quiet in those losses, scoring just four runs throughout this losing skid. And, when they have had opportunities, they haven't taken advantage. On Saturday, for example, the Red Sox left eight runners on base, including in the seventh inning when Rafael Devers struck out with the bases loaded.

After the game, Devers reportedly took issue with some of the roster moves that the team had made in recent days.

According to the Boston Globe's Pete Abraham , Devers pointed out some of these changes, saying that they may have contributed to their poor offensive performances.

While Devers didn't mention any names specifically, according to Abraham, it's not hard to look back at who has come and gone over the last week or so.

Boston sent down Bobby Dalbec Pablo Reyes and Enmanuel Valdez to bring in Garrett Cooper, Vaughn Grissom, Dominic Smith and Zack Short.

These new additions to the lineup have been poor offensively, hitting just .129 with a .311 OPS. Smith even got thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double on Saturday.

However, they aren't much worse than the trio that left, as Dalbec, Reyes and Valdez combined to hit .158 with a .432 OPS in their 203 at-bats.

Boston needs players to step up, and while Devers struggled in Game 2 of the series against the Twins, he's been great since coming back from his knee injury. Others just need to follow his lead.
