According to a source, the Red Sox are planning on optioning Bobby Dalbec to Triple-A Worcester. The move, which was not announced by the team following its 3-1 loss to the Giants Thursday, would likely coincide with activating second baseman Vaughn Grissom.

Dalbec offered roster flexibility for the Red Sox considering he still has an option left, allowing him to be sent to the minors without being designated for assignment. His fate was also defined by the additions of first basemen Garrett Cooper and Dominic Smith.

The 28-year-old played in 22 games for the Red Sox this season, hitting .132 with a .377 OPS. Dalbec, who had reached base safely in each of his last seven games, got most of the playing time at first base after the injury to Triston Casas.
