BORGER, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – 828 Sports Ventures announced on Tuesday that it proposed building one of the largest multisport complexes in Texas in the city of Borger, according to area officials, which could be a $100 million travel sports destination on 100 acres in the community.

According to information from the Borger Economic Development Corporation, the proposed “BoomTown MultiDome Sports Complex” could include indoor courts and fields to support up to 17 different sports, a family-style water park attraction, meeting spaces, an on-site play and stay hotel, and restaurants. Further, the complex would have a sports institute and training education area, as well as the ability to host high school and college graduations, training for regional first responders and other community events.

“Sports tourism has become a $91.8 billion industry in the United States with research and financial projection data showing that the BoomTown MultiDome Sports Complex is expected to create upwards of $75 million in annual economic impact to the Borger and Panhandle area,” said the Borger EDC release, “The 828 Sports Ventures group predicts up to 1.2-1.5 million visitors to the complex at its peak performance.”

828 Sports Ventures CEO DeAngelo Simmons said that the Borger community appeared as a good choice for the complex proposal due to its location, which Simmons said could provide the business with access to young athletes and their families from across the Midwestern US.

“I am thrilled to welcome 828 Sports Ventures to the Borger Community,” said Borger Mayor Karen Felker, “This $100 million investment in the BoomTown MultiDome Sports Complex not only promises to enhance our community’s recreational opportunities but also positions Borger as a premier destination for sports tourism, supporting our community vision of becoming the desired destination of the Panhandle. With its state-of-the-art facilities and commitment to sports education, the BoomTown MultiDome Sports Complex will not only attract athletes and families from across the region but also support job training and local industrial diversification. This project continues to show why Borger remains ‘Where Opportunity Booms.'”

The Borger EDC said in its announcement that the proposal was a “comprehensive plan and execution strategy” on the regional benefits and forecasted economic impact of the project, which was presented after meetings with the Borger EDC and city officials over a six-month period. The full resolution approving the development agreement can be found here.
