Fallen honored with Memorial Ruck at park
The Captain Mark Garner VFW Post 7794 hosted a Memorial Ruck through Elkin park and downtown on Saturday. "We had a great turn out for our second annual Memorial Ruck," said one of the event organizers. "We had young and old, and all ages in between. People joined us from as far away as Pilot Mountain to walk in memory of a fallen service member. We want to give a special thanks to Elkin Fire Department for traffic control, Elkin High School JROTC cadets for leading the ruck and carrying colors, Elkin Elementary Beta for making the banner and walking, and all of Forbush High JROTC who bussed in from Yadkin county to be a part of such an important event."

This reserve unit was comprised primarily of local World War ll veterans who wished to enjoy the camaraderie established during their active military service.
