BOONE — A paramedic is facing a misdemeanor charge after responding to an incident at the Hospitality House in Boone on Monday, April 22.

According to Ashe County arrest reports, Jack Reedy, 57, was arrested on Saturday, April 27, and charged with misdemeanor assault on a female. The case is currently awaiting trial.

At 4:26 p.m. on Monday, April 22, emergency services personnel responded to a call of a reported stabbing at the Hospitality House on 338 Brook Hollow Rd.

According to the incident report, a resident of Hospitality House suffered a minor puncture wound, and the incident occurred in the fields/woods around the property, with drugs/alcohol use involved. No arrests were made as a result of the incident, and the case was determined to be unfounded.

While emergency services personnel were responding to the call, an incident occurred that led to the arrest of Reedy, formerly with Watauga Medics. The incident involved a simple assault in which the offender allegedly grabbed the victim’s arm and shoved her. The incident took place within the shelter and was reported at 4:58 p.m. on Monday, April 22.

According to the arrest warrant, the alleged victim, a registered nurse practitioner, stated she was already on the scene when law enforcement was dispatched to the initial stab wound call and had been attending to the patient before Watauga Medics arrived. She then stated that Reedy approached her and allegedly “shoved” her out of the way while she had a used needle in her right hand. She stated that Reedy shoved his way between herself and the victim and told her that she did not know what she was doing.

According to court documents, Reedy allegedly approached the victim and shoved her with his forearm, telling her that she is “not going to stitch it.” After she asks Reedy “Why?” Reedy allegedly stated, “Because I’m a paramedic and you’re not.”

After the victim allegedly replied that she was a nurse practitioner, Reedy allegedly stated, “I don’t care, you can’t do that here.” Reedy allegedly then stated that if she was a nurse practitioner, then she would know that the victim needed to be airlifted, according to court documents. After a brief conversation, Reedy shoved the alleged victim again and allegedly stated that she “could go now” and requested law enforcement to escort her out.

No injury was reported as a result of the incident, and the case remains active.
