Make-A-Wish announces return of Wishes on Deck — Here are the rosters
PLEASANT HILL, Iowa — Make-A-Wish Iowa's 2024 softball event Wishes on Deck is set to pit the Hawkeyes and Cyclones against each other for a good cause. The event on Sunday, June 23 brings together athletes from all over the state to play in a friendly, yet competitive, game of softball. The game raises money to grant wishes for as many children as possible fighting critical illnesses.

Vote: Ames Tribune Athletes of the Week for May 6-12
This past week saw Ames-area high school track and field teams compete in state qualifying meets. Ames ran at the Class 4A qualifying meet in Norwalk, Ballard and Gilbert at the 3A meet in Alleman, Nevada at the 3A meet in Saydel (Des Moines), Roland-Story at the 2A meet in Story City, Collins-Maxwell at the 1A meet in Earlham and Colo-NESCO at the 1A meet in Belle Plaine. Area athletes combined to qualify for state in 86 events.
Central Iowa couple charged with child endangerment
MAXWELL, Iowa — A Maxwell couple is facing child endangerment and assault charges following an investigation by the Story County Sheriff's Office. The Story County Sheriff's Office says John and Jessica McDaniel abused and neglected their four children. Investigators say John McDaniel intentionally harmed one of their children, causing a broken nose.
