Jamie Delano Lockman passed April 16, 2024.He was born on Dec. 10, 1934, at home north of Bonners Ferry, Idaho to Lester and Helma Lockman. He was the fourth of 12 children.He attended school in Bonners Ferry until he reached the eighth grade, that is when he dropped out of school to help at home. He recalled getting all the younger siblings ready and off for school each morning and then helping with the family needs at home doing anything from cooking, cleaning, chores, milking goats to caring for the youngest siblings. For the Bonners Ferry Police Department, calendar year 2023 into the first quarter of 2024 has yielded significant change within our department. Former Assistant Police Chief, Marty Ryan retired in early December, where the role of assistant chief saw the police department's 2023 Officer of the Year, Jeremy Garrett, promoted to that position. Assistant Chief Garrett, has been an invaluable asset to our department and community since he started as a patrol officer here early in 2022. Assistant Chief Garrett brought with him over 10 years of law enforcement experience from South Carolina and Washington state.

BONNERS FERRY — A second-degree murder and arson case is advancing to district court following a two-day preliminary hearing that concluded Tuesday. Shannon Perry Dabbs, 57, is facing a second-degree murder charge in connection with the death of his wife, Susan Marie Dabbs, and the arson of their home.

MT. HALL — Pioneer Lodge is a turn-key venue just 20 minutes north of Bonners Ferry, whether you’re looking for a family staycation or a wedding venue. With views of Mission Creek, the Kootenai Valley and Hall Mountain, Dennis and Anita Dinning originally used the lodge as a family cabin. Ultimately they decided the 40-acre property was meant to be shared and converted it into a venue.

Sheriff W.F. Dunning, assisted by Wm. Welch and C.P. Hansen, special agent for the Spokane International Railway Company, captured a Dodge truck, loaded with booze at the Great Northern sub-grade crossing between Naples and Moravia, early Sunday morning and placed under arrest the two men who were driving the truck. The truck, a new Dodge, carried 29 cases of liquor, packed in sacks.

Moyie Springs Outdoor market returns for second year
MOYIE SPRINGS — The Moyie Springs Outdoor Market is returning for a second year with opening day set for May 4. The market will be promoting a Mother’s Day basket, which will include items from vendors. Customers will receive a raffle ticket with purchase at booths on May 4 and May 11, with a drawing taking place on May 11 at the closing of market. Each vendor will be contributing to the basket with an item from their booth.
NICA sees a year of milestones
Looking back, North Idaho Classical Academy has had some significant milestones this past year. Laying the foundation: Since its inception in 2018, North Idaho Classical Academy has evolved from an idea into an actual school that will be opening in August 2025 with over 550 students intending to enroll.
